OnLine Door County newsletter for July, 2004: EMail problems: If you experienced any problems in the past with “forwarded” messages not getting to you it seems that our SPAM filter software decided all on its own that anything forwarded was SPAM and dumped these messages. The problem was discovered after a few folks complained about forwarded eMail going missing. Some intensive troubleshooting located and fixed the problem. I have been getting some reports of eMail being “bounced” back from other servers. I have found that most of those were either incorrect reply addresses on the other end, SPAM and VIRUS filters on the other end, accidental blocks applied by eMailers at the other end and a few IP address server blocks…most of which were either temporary or random problems. ISP server IP blocking is – as explained in a prior newsletter – a result of someone either spamming from their computer or someone with a virus on dcwis..com raising the attention of blacklister sites. There are blacklisting sites that some ISP’s subscribe to that simply decide to put an ISP on this list without notifying that ISP of the listing, or why or any details what-so-ever. Usually calling the ISP that subscribes to this list and explaining the problem will clear up the situation. Hopefully they will get tired of all the calls and quit using those blacklist companies that seem to have no ethical values at all. Hi Speed connections between locations: If you have a company and need high speed connections between two offices or office and plant we can provide T1 and above speeds for far less than the phone company. Call for details. Wireless: Wireless has been slower to expand than we intended but we now cover most of the entire western shore of Door County – at least all those areas that face approx. the Menomonee, Marinette area. Good signal has been reported as far south as Dykesville. There are installs on both Washington and Chambers Islands and anyone who has a shot at the Ellison Bay towers on Old Stage Road or the Sturgeon Bay towers or simply downtown Sturgeon Bay can all get wireless service. Egg Harbor should be available very soon. If you reside at Horseshoe Bay Farms there is a local distribution system in place right now. The other communities will go forward just as soon as suitable tower locations can be found and negotiated. Our Wi Fi hot spots will begin service shortly as well. Wi Fi means you can get within range of these systems with your laptop or any Wi Fi enabled wireless networked computer and be able to log on to the WEB simply by signing in and giving your credit card number over a secure connection or prepaying for time at the office. One will be able to go to ANY of the Wi Fi’s that are setup after that and get a connection. INet Café We continue to have more and more users at the iNet Café on Juddville road. Currently we charge by the hour, but have had a few requests for extended rates or even short term office space. If you or your guests have a need for short term office space with high speed internet access give us a call.
